Movie Overview
Dasara marks a bold reinvention for Nani, who trades his boy-next-door image for a raw, rugged character set against the coal mines of Singareni in Telangana. Director Srikanth Odela captures the dust, heat, and moral grayness of this world with a visual palette that feels unlike most Telugu films — dark, immersive, and deeply rooted in the region’s culture and dialect. The story of Dharani, a man driven by alcohol, grief, and eventually revenge, is not a comfortable watch, but Nani’s performance is arguably his career-best, disappearing completely into a character far removed from anything he has done before. Keerthy Suresh and Dheekshith Shetty match his energy well, and the interval bang is the kind of gut-punch that leaves you sitting in your seat. Santhosh Narayanan’s music adds tremendous soul to the film, especially the haunting Chamkeela Angeelesi. The second half is predictable, but the film earns its emotional landing through strong performances and atmosphere alone.
