Movie Overview
Salaar: Part 1 is Prashanth Neel doing what he does best — building a dark, mythic world soaked in blood and loyalty, where the hero is less a person and more a force of nature. Prabhas plays Deva, a man with a violent past and a deeply conflicted moral code, and his brooding, minimal-dialogue performance gives the character an almost supernatural quality. The fictional city-state of Khansaar is meticulously constructed, and the film’s political intrigue — power struggles, tribal allegiances, betrayal — gives it a Game of Thrones scale. Prithviraj Sukumaran is a scene-stealer as Deva’s complex best friend and rival Varadha, and their scenes together carry enormous emotional weight. The action choreography is brutal and inventive, Ravi Basrur’s score is thunderous, and the climax sets up the sequel in the most tantalizing way possible. It collected ₹614 crore worldwide and became the highest-grossing Telugu film of 2023 for good reason.
